Our full-day LTNS K Bridge program is designed for children who would benefit from the gift of a year before beginning kindergarten. K Bridge incorporates many of the same aspects of LTNS, including process-oriented art experiences, emergent curriculum based on the interests of the children, and inspiration from the Reggio Emilia philosophy. In addition, the curriculum has been intentionally selected in areas of literacy, handwriting, math, social emotional skills, and fine and gross motor skills.
K Bridge is created for a small number of children and is co-taught by teachers who are experienced and dually certified in General Education and Special Education. This allows us to meet the children where they are and to tailor the curriculum to meet the needs of each child. Please see below for more information on the activities that make up the day.
Fundations and Sounds In Motion:
We will follow Fundations, a structured literacy approach grounded in the science of reading to make learning to read fun while laying the groundwork for lifelong literacy. For the K Bridge level, children will be introduced to upper case letters, their sounds and formation. We will also combine Fundations with Sounds in Motion, a kinesthetic modality of learning the letters and their sounds.
Writer’s/Reader’s Workshop:
During Writer’s Workshop, children will be introduced to the ideas of oral and written storytelling. When writing stories on paper, some children may be experimenting with representation pictures to tell their stories, while others are traditionally writing and adding spaces between words. During Reader’s Workshop, children will be introduced to a variety of stories in whole group and small group work. When engaging with stories, children will have opportunities to engage in conversations about their books, while also developing skills including retelling and sequencing.
Math:
Our K Bridge math workshops will include whole, small group, and individual mini lessons and will allow the children to work collaboratively to solve problem, play games, and become mathematical thinkers. Topics covered include counting, patterns, writing and recognizing numbers and shapes.
Worktime:
We believe that play is the important work of children and our kindergarteners will have choice time (worktime) every day. Deeply layered learning will be woven into the self-selected activities of choice time. These activities will include painting, block building, sensory experiences, light and shadow play, dramatic play, and more.
Additional Enrichment:
Our LTNS K Bridge will have Music, Yoga, Art Studio, BOLD Arts Dance, and Sports weekly. They will have access to the playground and all indoor gross motor spaces as well. In addition, the class will collaborate with our Occupational Therapist and Speech Therapist throughout the year. Every Friday, K Bridge will join with our Pre-K students for Shabbat in the sanctuary.
